Casanova Movie

The Casanova movie is a comedy adventure romance drama written by Kimberley Simi and Michael Cristofer based on the life of Giacomo Casanova and adapted for the screen by Jefferey Hatcher And Kimberley Simi, directed by Lasse Hallström. The Casanova movie was filmed entirely in Veneto, Italy beginning July 2004 and released on December 25th, 2005 and received 3 award nominations and 2 wins which included the COFCA Award for Actor of the Year for Heath Ledger's portrayal of Casanova and it was subsequently released on DVD April 25th, 2006.

The Casanova movie opens in 1753 Venice, Italy and Giacomo Casanova, portrayed by Heath Ledger is unknowing to her, in love with Francesca Bruni, portrayed by Sienna Miller, a writer who uses the ghost name Bernardo Guardi to write feminist books and argues for women's right using another name, Dr. Giordano de Padua. Francesca is betrothed to Paprizzio, portrayed by Oliver Platt, a man she has never met through an arranged marriage set up by Francesca's mother Andrea, portrayed by Lena Olin.

Casanova himself is engaged to Victoria, portrayed by Natalie Dormer, because The Doge, the ruler of the city, portrayed by Tim McInnerny, but sympathetic to Casanova, has asked him to soon marry or be exiled from the city because of his legendary promiscuity with women and a fear that the church will soon retaliate. Victoria is in love with Giovanni Bruni, portrayed by Charlie Cox, who is Francesca's brother.

Upon Paprizzio's arrival to meet Francesca for the first time, Casanova lies to him and says that the hotel he has booked for himself is closed and persuades him to stay with him by telling him that he is actually Bernardo Guardi. While Paprizzio stays at Casanova's house, Casanova visits Francesca, pretending to be him.

During there first meeting, Casanova confesses his love and true identity to Francesca, which angers her, and Casanova is immediately arrested by Catholic Church representative Pucci, portrayed by Jeremy Irons, for crimes against sexual morality. Casanova proves his love to Francesca during his trial by pretending to be Bernardo Guardi and she stands and confesses to the crime to prove her love in return. As a result they are both sentenced to be hanged in the Piazza San Marco but just as the sentence is about to be carried out, an announcement is brought forth by a Cardinal on behalf of the Pope that may work to there advantage and allow there love to blossom.
